This type of agarwood is cored bark of agarwood trees which were planted and collected in South Vietnam. I have collected from many southern provinces. People will plant trees from 8 to 10 years after they grow up enough in size. They will remove its outer bark for 1 year to let them release its resin to cover its wound.
After 1 year, they will cut down trees, remove outer bark, inner bark, and keep cut off to heartwood till they see it black oil line. Commonly, it will have 3 to 4 workers who will be responsible for different processes.
As my experience for selling and using, I will make flat wood at 0.8mm in thickness. This thickness is not too thin to cause overwhelming heating or too thick to cause bad wood aroma. Flat agarwood or we can call Flat oud focuses on nice woody and sweet. But please notice that they don’t have the sweet aroma as natural agarwood.
Flat agarwood grade 4A, focuses on nice, sweet aroma combined with nice woody. It is one of the best qualities. As we can see, it has almost black oil color lines covering 85% pieces and lots of oil bubbles.
